METHOD
Thread a needle with a double length of 36ins "Nymo".
Wax the thead
Thread enough blue rocailles onto the thread to go round your neck and add a few extra. (It doesn't matter at this stage if it is too long. The extra beads can be removed later.)
Attatch to a cullotte. (TIP. To prevent knot slipping back through hole of cullotte tie the thread round a rocaille within the cullotte and add adrop of glue or nail varnish)
Now take the needle back through the hole in the cullotte and through the first four rocailles.
Pick up 1 silver rocaille, 2 blue, 1 silver, 3 blue, 4 silver.
Take needle back through the first of this group of silver & pull tight to make a little cluster at the bottom of the first triangle.
Pick up 3 blue, 1 silver, 2 blue
Take needle back through fist silver and pull tight.
Take needle through the next 3 blue rocailles on the thread.
You have now made your first diamond!
Pick up 1 silver , two blue
Go through the silver on the first diamond
Pick up 3 blue, 4 silver
Go back through the fist silver of this group
Pick up 3 blue. 1 silver, 2 blue
Take needle back through silver at the top
Take needle through next 3 blue rocailles on thread.
Repeat this last diamond along the length of the the thread to the required length leaving 4 blue at the end. Remove any extra rocailles and finish with a cullotte. Attach cullottes to your chosen clasp.

Picking up beads

You now have a completed necklace. This is a simple form and there are many variations.
This shows a more complicated necklace, but the method is the same. Start with the simple version and you should soon be able to do this more complicated one. |

In this case the 4 bead cluster has been replaced with a glass drop. Another alternative would be to add a cube in place of the cluster, or replace the 3 silver rocaille with a larger bead of a different colour.
TIPS. When doing any work with rocailles do not try picking up the beads with your fingers! Empty the beads into a small shallow china dish and scoop up the required number of beads using the needle. It helps if you tip the dish slightly. A good source for dishes are Art suppliers. We use the palets meant for mixing paint. And for another good source, try a "Cook Shop"
Like any bead work it becomes much easier to hold once you have worked a few rows, so don't give up too soon! and if these instructions don't make sense then email me and I will try to help.
