TIARAS

We are often asked in the Shop for books on making and designing Tiaras. So far as I am aware there is nothing available on the subject at the moment and so we are often asked to show the customers how to make them.
When shown the basics of twisting wire and adding beads most people agree that it is really quite easy.

So we have deceided to have a "MAKE IT" section on our web site, but you will have to be patient because it is much easier to do than to describe!

Tiaras can be made using any small beads and pendants. The beads are held in place by twisting the wire back on itself or by using a single strand and holding the bead in place on to the wire using crimps. ( the same crimps that are used when making floating necklace from "Beadalon" plastic covered wire)

Tiara made using a silver plated tiara band with various bead and plastic flowers and leaves attached to 6mm silver and coloured wire and then twisted onto the tiara band.

This tiara is not made on a band but the base is made using silver plated wire; 1.2mm or 1.5mm. This is bent into shape to fit your head and the ends of the wire twisted into a loop using pointed pliers is the same way as you would make a loop at the top of a headpin when making earrings. This is a good way of making the tiara base if you need a larger size than the standard tiara band.

In this case the beads have been attached using 7mm turquoise wire and then wire wraped to cover te base completely.

The basic elements of the tiara. A number of these are made ready to twist onto the tiara band. These are made by taking a lenght of wire ( a least twice the lenght of the finished part + about 6ins to twist around the band Always allow more wire than you think you need. The extra can be cut off later.)

Thread the bead onto the wire and hold it in the centre. Then twist the wire over so that the two ends lie besde each other and twist the two ends together starting at the top just below the bead and twist to the end. It is sometimes better to leave the last few inches untwisted so that these can be twisted around the band separately.
