Company Background
I have been selling beads from my shop "BEADS-IN-ABUNDANCE" in Capuchin Yard for about fifteen years.
I first began designing and making knitwear from this same unit, and because I found I needed beads to include with the applique on the jumpers I was designing, I began looking around for suppliers of beads. As you yourself have no doubt already discovered, bead suppliers are few and far between!
Certainly fifteen years ago they were almost non existent!
Having started to stock a few beads for my own use I soon found that customers (in particular, students from the local Art School) were begging me to sell them beads as well..... and so it all began!
Fifteen years later we are now supplying beads to customers througout the U.K.
With my customers showing an ever increasing interest in beads and the quantity and variety of beads rapidly expanding, the knitwear side of the business soon had to take a back seat and was finally abandoned for good.
And so "Beads-In-Abundance" was born.
During the intervening years the style of beads has changed considerably. To begin with we were mainly selling the large "Ethnic" stye bead. But fashions in beads change like everything else and now our most popular beads are the tiny bright spakley beads- the sort used in "floating" necklaces.
About Our Products
BEADS AND THEIR USES
In the shop we are constantly amazed at the new uses customers find for beads. The first use that comes to mind is for making earrings and necklaces, but it doesn't end there.
Have you considered adding beads to your patchwork or embroidery? Did you know that tapestry designs can be worked entirely in beads? Would you expect fly fishermen to frequent my shop, or dolls house furniture makers? The uses are never ending.
In the last few years a lage amount of our business has been in suppling beads and "wire" for the card making craft.
Do you know what "Rocailles" are? Sometimes called seed beads they are in constant demand for the increasingly popular Amulet Purses as well as being used for bead weaving using bead looms which we also stock.
We have hoops, feathers and threads for the ever popular"Dream Catchers"and a variety of "tools" for wire work, including round nosed pliers and cutters.
On thre"Threads" page you will find leather and cotton thongs which are used for stringing the large holed (2mm) beads for chokers, (always popular with the young men). And we can supply a variety of threads for beads of every description. silk, Nymo, Sylamide for rethreading pearls; Softflex for heavy beads, and used with French Crimps, for this seasons popular "floating" necklaces made with the tiny 1mm/2mm beads.
Types of beads include glass lamp beads, glass crystal, powder glass, bone, horn, wood, man made, acrylic, silver plated and sterling silver. Amongst the semi-precious we stock amber, jade, rose quartz, crystal, amethyst and many other beads, donuts, and pendants.
